ProjectComment is a group that provides Guaranteed & Constructive comments for the DeviantArt community. Our mission is to encourage the development of a culture of exchanging constructive comments within the DeviantArt community, for the benefit of all its members!

As many of our members have discovered, there is great opportunity for improvement in both giving and receiving comments! This feature will spotlight a few of the amazing members of ProjectComment for an entire month: every week they will answer a different question to showcase their experience with giving and receiving comments and how that has improved their experiences as artists and in the DeviantArt community in general.

Check out Comments Received and Comments Given!

How can ProjectComment members improve the feedback they give?

Like I mentioned before, I really loved if they managed to find something new that was wrong with the art. maybe not as much as the mistakes in anatomy of the certain piece (unless it' s a wip and that' s highly needed) but a mistake that keeps repeating! Maybe somebody drew two left hands. At this picture they might have messed up and maybe even know the mistake, but it's too big of a hassle to fix it. But if they draw two left hands on all their pictures, it' s worth pointing out!

If they make a mistake, it’s worth pointing out!

I think there are too important things: A) Go ahead and talk about the flaws you see. Saying what you like may help with confidence, but telling the artist/writer what went wrong leads to progress. B) Make sure you read the artist's comment! This usually isn't a problem, but sometimes the piece itself is a bit misleading or requires some background info about the creator to understand.

Comments can end up in the wrong place without the info in the artist's comment.

By possibly asking to see if they can add in small corrections, or red line work more often. I think as visual artists it would help greatly, as we get an idea of what needs to be worked on.

Also I think links to tutorials and great examples would be great as well.

I guess...I really can't think of anything to improve upon.

The system is working very well in my opinion!

Lemme start this off by saying that ProjectComment members leave some of the best comments out there and there isn't much to complain about. It's only been once or twice that I've received a comment not up to my personal standards, and by that I mean it seems like they commented quickly just to comment. But really, who hasn't done that from time to time?

For the most part, ProjectComment’s members give helpful advice and leave positive, uplifting comments. Whenever I see someone who really wants more feedback, I tell them about ProjectComment.

I have found that when people tell me what is successful or good about my art and why and what needs to be improved and why is great. I have had some comments where someone will say the anatomy here seems off but then won't say what is off about it. I even have a few images where I have a link to a reference and some commenters obviously didn't bother to click on it and tell me about issues that actually aren't there according to the reference, I.e., the foreshortening seems wrong, that leg looks to thin.

If someone has a link to a reference or wrote about their character, it is something you should take a moment to look at or read. This way, you aren't leaving a comment that is unhelpful.

Commenter Bios and Art

kArA-Redwing - I'm a jack-of-all-trades kind of artist. I'm working on my story/comic AnK, and my favorite part besides writing the story itself, is world-building.

DoubleDandE - I'm a traditional and digital artist whose been drawing for most his life. I'm self taught and I like to draw parodies and creepy scary things from time to time. I also like telling stories if you are willing to lend an ear once in a while…

Old-Stargazer - I started my DeviantArt account roughly two years ago with only the intention of talking to people online. However, as time went on, my art skills began to develop rapidly as I tried different things to draw.

CiCi-Arts - I'm a self-taught hobbyist artist, as well as an aspiring writer who wishes to illustrate my own books. I've been taking great strides to improve (and have seen so much of it in just these past few months) and I make sure to write and draw every day!

VoiceInForestShadow - I am an artist of many mediums including oil paint, acrylic paint, clay, chalk pastel and ink. I live in a forest where fragments of the past yet linger and the future is changing but bearing inspiration always.

How To Nominate

We are always looking for nominations of deviants who you think should be featured! Note astarayel with the subject "Nomination" and the following information:

 :star: Name of Deviant

:star: Link to their exceptional comments. (This is great way to give back to a user who has given you fantastic feedback!)

You can suggest anyone and everyone at any time and include as many nominations as you want in one note. All nominations will be taken into consideration--if your nomination isn't featured immediately, it may still be featured in a future news article!
