As part of our mission to provide members with constructive comments at ProjectComment, we present to you the second edition of our new project: Thematic Commenting, a focused approach to commenting where each edition revolves around a key component of art.

Bullet; Green Each edition will feature a different topic (e.g. Color, Perspective, etc.)

Bullet; Green If you would like to receive specific comments about that topic, you have one week to sign up.

Bullet; Green After one week, the edition will officially launch with a feature of all submissions where you can receive constructive comments.

This Month's Theme is... Composition!

Composition refers to the placement of subjects with respect to the canvas, the surroundings and/or other subjects. It analyzes where everything is on the canvas and how effective or believable that arrangement appears. It also puts emphasis on the focus of the picture, positive/negative space, and balance. (Not to be confused with the literary application of composition).

Rules

:bulletblack: Artwork must contain one of the following:

  • 2+ Subjects
  • Environment
  • Graphic Design
  • Typography

(Exceptions can be made if artwork demonstrates deliberate use of composition.)

:bulletblack: Visual artwork only

:bulletblack: Only one artwork allowed per person, per topic.

Possible Discussion Points:

  • Is the focus of the picture drawn in a place where it stands out or can be seen easily?
  • Does the composition feel like a unified concept or is it disjointed?
  • Positive/Negative Space: Is there a nice balance of empty/blank space and detail? Likewise, do any parts of the canvas feel too empty or too cluttered?
  • Does the placement of the subjects feel optimal to you or should anything be shifted?
  • Are there variations in quality between the different elements of the picture?
  • Does the composition look dynamic or flat?
  • Do your eyes want to explore the canvas or stay in one spot?

Sign up now by replying to this journal with a link to your artwork OR submitting to this folder.
